The HELICON gas meters are designed to measure the volume of natural gas or the gas phase of liquefied petroleum gas in gas pipelines of low pressure (up to 5 kPa) and medium pressure (up to 0.3 MPa). The principle of operation of the meters is based on measurements of the oscillation frequency of the jet autogenerator (SAG). The oscillation frequency is detected by piezoelectric elements generating an electrical signal with a frequency equal to the oscillation frequency of the SAG. The signal is generated by an amplifier-shaper and goes to a microprocessor device that calculates the volume of gas that has passed through the meter and generates pulses at the output of the meter. The volume value is indicated on the liquid crystal display (LCD).

The counters are available in aluminum or plastic cases.

The counters have the following versions:
• G1.6, G2.5, G4, G6, G10, G25, G40 differing in maximum flow;
• And - characterized by the presence of a pulse output with a pulse price normalized for the standard size;
• H - for low pressure pipelines;
• C - for medium pressure pipelines;
• TC, characterized by the presence of temperature correction.
The meters have an RMD design, characterized by the presence of an archive of hourly average values of the measured volume of gas with a depth of 67 days and a radio interface designed to read current and archived data.
